INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
Individual therapy involves meeting with a therapist one-on-one for the purpose of reducing internal suffering which occurs in the form of problematic behaviors, beliefs, feelings, and somatic responses (sensations in the body). In addition, ongoing psychotherapy is a common and useful means of self-growth and self-actualization. Individual therapy generally takes place once a week for 50 minutes, although the frequency and length of sessions may vary depending on treatment needs.
COUPLES THERAPY
Couples therapy helps couples, married or not, understand and resolve conflicts and improve their relationship. Couples therapy gives couples the tools to communicate better, negotiate differences, problem solve and even argue in a healthier way. Couples therapy sessions generally occur weekly for a 75 minute sessions. The frequency of meetings may vary depending on treatment needs.
FAMILY THERAPY
Family therapy is based on the belief that the family is a unique social system with its own structure and patterns of communication. These patterns are determined by many factors, including the parents' beliefs and values, the personalities of all family members, and the influence of the extended family (grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.). As a result of these variables, each family develops its own unique personality, which is powerful and affects all of its members. Family therapy generally takes place once a week for 50 minute sessions depending on the age of the children and treatment needs.
CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENT THERAPY
Children and adolescents may experience a variety of stresses in their lives that may include family, peers or academic stress. They also may struggle to control their behavior and meet the expectations of their parents and teachers. Whereas adults often (but not always) express themselves through words and ideas, children and adolescents “show and tell” what is happening for them through using the symbolic language of play. Children and adolescents may benefit from the use of play and art therapy to better “understand” the language conveyed by them. Children and adolescent therapy generally takes place once a week for 50 minute sessions depending on the age of the children and treatment needs.
IN-HOME SESSIONS
In-home therapy can be helpful for clients with chronic illnesses or women suffering from postpartum depression that do not allow them mobility to attend weekly office sessions. Additionally, in-home therapy can be utilized as an adjunct when working with children and adolescents to assist with transitions, developmental and school issues. In-home therapy therapy generally takes place once a week for 50 minute sessions depending on the age of the children and treatment needs.
TELEPHONE SESSIONS
Telephone sessions are available for clients who travel often or are unable to attend regular office sessions. Telephone sessions take place in increments of 15 minutes.
